I've always wondered what the soviets have done with their waste? They probably handled more Pu than the US did and it is a know fact that they half-ass everything.
They fill old subs up with it and sink them into the deep end of lake Baikal.

Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

.... I decided to read this article, and the FIRST line is as follows:

Transatomic, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology spinoff is developing a nuclear reactor designed to overcome the major barriers to nuclear power.

So, in other words, some guys, NOT MIT, are WORKING ON developing this. Sort of upends your entire post there...

      Welcome back.

"sort of upends your entire post" - because their level of connection to MIT is the point of it and the fact that they are one of a few groups "trying to revolutionize nuclear power by bringing back alternative fuels, including thorium, and alternative reactor designs" has no bearing because, well, they are only MIT PhD grads and not employees of the university...

            right?

              welcome back.

No, because he posted "develops" which is a far cry from the article, which is talking about them attempting to develop something. The first underlined part just made it more questionable. Something that is developed is finished. Pretty much anything you could imagine is being developed in one way or the other. It doesn't really mean much.

Probably a stupid question but what does nuclear waste consist of and/or what does it look like? Is it just radioactive trash?
