  • No 2015 Mustang SVO

Instead it's a Mustang Ecoboost. Fuckin' gaaaay.

Not SVO. Not ST. Not "Mustang Turbo," probably because it's made by Ford and not Dodge circa 1986. We have a name for the turbocharged four-cylinder 2015 Ford Mustang, and it is "Mustang EcoBoost." And we have more details on the options you can order across all trim levels.

This information comes to us from the Mustang6G forum, which today posted the order guides for the 2015 'Stang's three trim levels. As anticipated, the base car gets a V6, the EcoBoost is the mid-level model model with a 2.3-liter turbo engine, and the top Mustang is the GT with the 5.0-liter V8.

Unfortunately, there's still no official word on power, torque or fuel economy numbers for any of these cars. Bummer. We'll have to wait a while for those.

Personally, I'm not crazy about calling the turbo model the Mustang EcoBoost. I was kind of hoping for ST myself because it fits with the hopped-up Fiesta and Focus and kind of sounds like GT, but it's good for marketing, so whatever.

The order guide has a ton of info about the various options you can get on each car. The EcoBoost Performance Package, which we learned about a few weeks back, gets an larger rear sway bar, unique chassis tuning, larger brakes, a bigger radiator, summer performance tires and a 3.55 limited slip rear axle.

The GT Performance Package has many of those things and more, like Brembo brakes, a 3.73 TORSEN rear axle, and unique stability control and ABS tuning.

Interestingly, there doesn't seem to be a Performance Package, Premium Package or 50th Anniversary Appearance Package on the V6 Mustang, at least not at the moment. Ford must really want to push the EcoBoost as the sub-V8 go-fast model now.

Feel free to take a look at the order guide at Mustang6G and tell us if you see any other interesting tidbits.

I can't blame them, would you really want to associate yourself with that pile of failure?

I think ST would be fitting.
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

I was thinking the same as I read it.

        ST would just confuse people.

I wonder what kind of fuel economy it will have.

Just reading that line: "...with a 2.3-liter turbo engine, and the top Mustang is the GT with the 5.0-liter V8" is like stepping into a time machine.

I'm torn. I like bringing names back as long as they are traditional to the originals. I actually like the current gen Charger, and I'm sure most former classic Charger owners probably don't feel the same way. They brought back the 5.0, so why not bring back the SVO? Hell, I'd never buy one, but it would be cool to see that emblem on the road. Or on the side of the road...

The engine is kind of limited as far as names go.

Don't they refer to the other turbo applications as "Ecoboost" too? Why should the Mustang be different.

The only people that might care are those fools that actually have some love for the old SVO.. So what, like 100 people?

I'm sure you will correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that apples to oranges? The 5.0 isn't the name of the car, just the engine size, while SVO was the identifier of the car. So GT is to SVO like 5.0 is to 2.3T.

One thing is for sure....Ford is all-in on that EcoBoost moniker.

I finally got sick of looking at those Prius-like emblems on the doors of my F150....peeled them and the FX4 billboards off recently and now can't believe I waited ~6-months to finally do it.

I'm kind of interested to see how the market responds to an EB Mustang....kind of half expecting a whole ricer sub culture that will flock to them with their fart-cans and Greddy stickers.

....they may end up being pretty cool, though.

Hell I made the dealer pull off those FX stickers before I left the lot.
