Funny you say that. I was talking with my old lady about this thread and donuts in general today while we were out for lunch in Grapevine (where we work), and we both agreed that we don't understand how that place stays open. Some people we work with like it, too. It is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst donuts I have ever eaten. I don't get it. Like the world is playing a practical joke pretending that they like them. Always burnt and dry. Always strange, bitter icing. Taste like they are sugar free and made two weeks ago and left sitting on the counter.

Ya, I hate them. To each his own, though. I wish I could see what you guys see, because we haven't had any luck finding another donut place close to downtown Grapevine.

Kountry Donuts is terrible and always has been in the 16 years I've worked in Grapevine. Every once in a while someone brings them in and they're a big, doughey, undercooked mess. It's beyond me how they're still there. I've found the most consistent place is a little asian "Donuts" place in the strip mall at Northwest Hwy and Park a couple doors down Grapevine Beer & Wine. They aren't earth shattering, but they're always good and consistent.

There's a Korean family that owns/runs a doughnut shop in Duncanville, and have since I was in elementary. I happened to be going through there a few months back, and stopped in. They started calling people up to the front, because they remembered me and wanted them all to see this guy that grew up on their doughnuts.

You have to go where to where the customer base is.. In other words, the barrio.

I will say that if you like Caldo's (which I do) El Paisa on Harwood is pretty good for being in the Mid Cities. Their Pozole is better than their Menudo, both only served on weekends until they run out. Their Caldo de Rez wasn't bad, and they have that all week.

Otherwise, stick to the taquerias in Irving..

Arlington was just rated by some internet thing recently as being the Mexican taco mecca of North Texas. I was surprised it beat out Irving.
