96-EBS99 Silverados are probably the most dependable half ton you can get. They are slow and thirsty but are bulletproof and parts are cheap. But you get to the 99-03 trucks and there are many electrical gremlins and minor brake wear issues and engines that love to leak after 100k.

That's just an example. Ford, Toyota, GM, Dodge etc etc all have there good and bad years.

That being said, the nicest and most reliable of those listed is the Toyota Tundra. We NEVER get them in for repair. Oil change and plugs, sure but never for mechanical failures.
I like the Tundra, but like many of the Toyota products, initial price (including used) is pretty high. I bought my Suburban 2 years ago for $12k. The truck sold new at $40k. Maintenance and small items may go out before the toyota, but the difference in purchase price more than makes up for it.

The only complaint I have is fuel mileage. 12-15 with city / hwy mixed on my 5.3. All highway gets me closer to 18, but that is rare.

I wish Chevy had the room, because the F150 has more room than my 3/4 ton.
IMO I vote F150 5.0. Crew Cab. You can fit a twin bed in the back seat. GM loses in the interior dept, and this 2015 new year they lose in the exterior department. Hideous. GM has taken an ugly turn in design for all vehicles.

I will agree that the second row on a crew cab silverado is a little tight.. Just depends on what your needs are.

Oh, and I am not a fan of the '15 Chevy's on looks alone, but he's looking used.

Agreed. Now that I have a child, room is very important. It will be my last GM.

With the 5.3? What problems did you have?

We had a 2006 Armada, and that thing had tons of room in the second row. Not sure about the Titan.

I'm all about the SUV's right now, just because of the dogs and kids.

If you can swing it, Sierra. They've got nice interiors, and my silly ass cares about that.

Yep. I'm about to get rid of my truck and get a mid size SUV for myself. I love that truck, but it's just way too impractical for where I live and what I do.

I've been pretty much ignoring the odometer on my 08 Sierra lately, but last I looked it was around 360K. I'm having an lifter issue with the active fuel management lifters on one cylinder- other than that it's trucking along like it should. (Oh and the driver's seat is fat-assed out... but that's because cake is good.)

If I were looking to buy a used truck, it'd be an 05-06 Sierra/Silverado. Virtually the same drivetrain as what I've got in my 08 but without the active fuel management. I also liked the body on the 03-07 Sierras over my current truck.
                      .

Didn't have any issues with the 5.3 besides the start up knock. Had tons of issues with the truck. Gauges, steering shaft vibration, fuel pump, ball joints, etc....

My poor 06 Silverado has 190k miles on it, the last 50k have been cammed, stalled, full exhaust and used to pull an 18' car hauler back and forth across the state of Texas at 80mph. Only thing I've busted is the rear end and an alternator. If you want room, go for the crew cab, don't mess with the extended cab. They are cheap, reliable, parts are easy to find and cheap, easy up work on, plus LS power is addictive.
