Momentary light switches?

I swear I cannot train the wife and kids to turn off damn lights. I have become my father. It pisses me off how many times a day certain lights, like closet or bathroom are left on. Probably more OCD than real concerns of power usage.

Do they make any light switches that you turn on and only stay on for maybe 30 seconds or a minute? I don't want the dial-timer kind, they'll just crank it all the way every time.

I'm getting cranky.

They make switches with occupancy sensors. where they come on and stay on as long as they detect movement in their field of view. Normally they have a manual bypass though.

There are those motion sensing switches in public and corporate bathrooms you could use.

They aren't cheap but I'm doing the same thing upstairs at my house. Sometimes the lights stay on two days before I see them up there!!

For $57 a piece you could just buy some wemo switches and control them on your phone instead.

I just use an air horn when I see them leave a room without turning off a light. It seems to work quite well.

Only problem though is that the light switches are often not facing the area being occupied. Like the outside of a closet, or hall.

Or instead of these you could go LED. It might be cheaper in the long run too cause the LEDs only use up 1/10th of the power

You need a redwood lighting system. They definitely arent for the tin foil hat types.

I have one of those motion sensor switches in my garage, it was fairly cheap like $10 at home depot. After its triggered it will stay on for a couple of minutes after if stops sensing movement. You can turn it on just by swiping a hand in front of it.
