  • Has anyone ever actually "saved" a marriage?

With all this divorce talk...have any of y'all actually saved a marriage through counseling, moving or similar?

I think I would be a cut my losses kinda guy and let it go quickly to begin the recovery, but maybe that's my insensitivity pressing too heavy to just drop it all.

Yes... So far my wife and I have saved our marriage. Let's just say she made some very bad choices that I found out about and after much deliberation and "trust rebuilding" we've gotten back to a point that was better than ever before.

It's not for everyone, and certainly one of the hardest things I've ever done. Sometimes I question if it's the reason I drink so much or just the catalyst that made me start drinking like I did before I knew her again. I drank a ton when I was single and then cut WAY WAY back after meeting her. But I write this with a good solid buzz and plenty of whiskey in my system (that she likely won't even recognize when she gets home in 10-20 min).

Yeah, I saved one. Saved it from a slow painful death & just crashed it into the side of the mountain. Looking back, it actually was best for all concerned.

I often entertain the idea of getting back with my ex, we still have a solid "friendly" relationship, which is to say we still have sex on occasion. But she walked out after 11 years together for greener grass and that's something you don't forget. After that grass dried up and turned to dirt she came crawling back wanting to reconcile. For now I'm enjoying the upper hand, not to say I don't get lonely sometimes but it's still better than putting up with a miserable cunt every day.

Negative... Her office doesn't close till 6. And like I said, there's been a lot of "trust rebuilding" so I'm now confident that it's on the up and up.

Also, I'll say this... If you've got a gut feeling something is off, you simply do not WANT to see the reality around you. TRUST yourself, and try to gather info before flying off the handle.

My wife and spent a year apart in 1985, we filed for divorce, had everything worked out and never went to court. We've been together for 44 years

Not me. I tried, but she wasn't feeling the same apparently. My divorce is final on Thursday the 15th.
