  • Anyone own a new Ford Explorer Sport (Ecoboost)

Anyone have any experience with them, or know anybody that does?
    Are they good vehicles?

Binky/Jedi/Chris98gt owns a new Explorer, but I don't remember what engine he went with.

Well I finally have realized how impractical my truck is for where I live and am wanting to get a mid-size SUV. Looking at that or possibly like a Lexus GX460 which is basically a nicer 4Runner. I really like the styling of the new Exp Sports though as well. I want something that will do well in the snow.

I drive a AWD one everyday at work. I really like it VS the Crown Vic, however for comfort the Tahoe was a little better. Also at speed the Tahoe was a little better with the longer wheel base. Three of us got them and we are still not a hundred percent sold on the seats. You find yourself sitting on the edges kind of leaning on stuff all the time. Its not that they are un comfortable, they just should be a hair bigger I think. They also have some torque steering that is really noticeable on not so perfect roads. Love the thing though but it is a tad different to drive. Oh and one other thing. We were talking about the headlights being kind of low vs normal cars. It is like they are facing to much to the ground and you can out drive them fairly fast. The really weird thing is I get high beamed all the time. The high beams don't really add to the depth either they just kind of illuminate the surrounding area better.

We currently have a 13 limited FWD explorer. It is a good car and has a lot of nice options. It does feel low on power though. We are thinking of getting in to a 14 Sport. I had a 13 SHO Taurus for a while (pretty much the same drivetrain as the sport explorer)and I loved it. They get up there in price pretty quick, with a optioned one MSRP in the 50's. I would say go drive one and see how it feels. Also maybe go drive one of the new Durangos. I have a friend that just got one and it is nice. Plus the RT has decent power and is cheaper than the sport.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to drive one. The reviews that I have read so far have them rated poor for snow, so I'm not sure now on one.
I'm not too concerned about size because we have the Cadillac. I'm just looking for a nice mid-size that's good in the snow and occasional trail off road/throwing bikes on/in it, etc, and that is reliable. Leaning more towards the GX from initial reading up on them.
