  • Anyone tried kicking field goals for the heck of it?

I was bored yesterday and wanted a little exercise. So I thought what the heck and grabbed a football and a tee and went kicking.I went to the local school on their football field. I have to admit, it was fairly more difficult than I thought. Not to mention I am so far out of shape it isn't even funny. But it was entertaining and I got some exercise chasing that damn football all over the place.

Now don't laugh, but I got close to the 35 yard line and got one through the uprights. Took many tries though.:wink1:

Like a lot of things in sports, the difference between a pro and us is consistency.

I am pretty sure you are right on that. LOL, I bet age comes in to play too.

On a side note, it reminded me of golf. I was not sure which way the ball was going to go.

ive tried it, takes balls to be able to do it with the game on the line and 6 million people watching you to put it 40 yards through the uprights

Now to me, drop kicking is an art all by itself.

I assure you it would have only taken once to fall on my ass, to shut my day down. Luckily none.

Barry, if if helps a 35 yard line kick is equivalent to a 45 yard field goal.

When I was riding my bike all the time, I could kick 40-45 yarders off the turf (placeholder no tee) with regularity. I have a LOT of respect for the guy that basically has 5-7 seconds to set up and then has to kick it 50 yards perfectly... Without getting smashed... With a game on the line.

What separates a kickers at the various levels is the upward angle of the kick. In the NFL you have to clear guys 6' 6" at the line with their hands up. Not alot of kickers can get the ball up and still kick it far.

Another thing that is often forgotten about, the 6'4"+ lineman, they will hold their hands up and create a 9' plus wall to kick over!

To "arch it" over that, and still make a 40 yard goal takes a STRONG leg.

I used to kick 40 yards or so, but with my angle the ball would hit most of the lineman in the chest if they were standing there. LOL

You think that's hard, try playing hockey. The pros make it look like childs play, until you have to skate, handle a puck, and keep from having the shit knocked outta you.

I still think of all the pro sports, hockey takes the most talent.

Shoot, I guess I feel pretty good just getting it down there once. I will tell you I had a tail wind to help me though. No way I could do it on a regular basis, not even sure I could do it again. 40-45 yards with regularity, you have my respect.

Luckily none of those guys showed up....lol. I was out there by myself just enjoying the 70 degree weather. But I agree 100 percent. Those kickers have a lot of factors to over come.
