At Decatur a buddy of mine a few spaces down from mine had walked down to talk to me at night and caught someone rummaging in the cab of his truck. They got away though.

Sadly I can speak from experience.....it is technically against the law to steal a car, but treated with about the same urgency (and punishment) as J-Walking or illegal parking....there is simply no real consequence.
Brings to mind the scene from The Big Lebowski when the dude goes to recover his stolen car from impound.

Probably one of my favorite scenes from that movie. "Yeah, I'll go check with the boys down in the crime lab..."

If they found the car intact, very little will be done to find the would-be thieves.

When my car was found the police did nothing short of make my life difficult getting it back. I was told to go to 2 different police stations then a tow yard across the metroplex. Useless, no dusting for prints or anything like that.

We stayed at Pate from thurs-sunday in a motorhome. I always make it a point to try and put the expensive parts back in the motorhome or hide them at night. Plus I made sure I got up throughout the night and walked around and checked our parts, and spots around us.
I don't trust anyone, thats why we stay there on site, and always leave one person selling the parts or atleast in sight. To me it seems that thieves are getting brave because everyone looks the other way, if its not their belongings...
