I've used TurboTax for several years now. No muss no fuss no problems.

Anyone else get charged for Turbo Tax? I paid 30 or whatever dollars for the upgraded filing and they charged me that and a "processing" fee of 30 or so bucks.

That's normal. They are providing you a service, thus the fee. It's worth it because it such a good program. I usually do my returns myself on paper, then use TurboTax for comparison and then use it to file. TT always shows a bigger return and finds things I'm eligible for that I didn't even realize. Being a homeowner and married also helps a great deal. I also make a lot of donations throughout the year to CCA. And get excellent tax credits on stuff that I have no longer have any use for.

I didn't read the thread, but here's my 02 cents.

I use a CPA and he charges me a flat rate (relatively simple return - married filing jointly, we both work + I do 1099 contract work on the side, meaning I write off my cell phone and portions of my house payment, utilities, vehicle expenses, etc.).

I used Turbo Tax several years in a row before I used this guy - so, as usual, I bought Turbo Tax and it said I owed a huge amount (I always owe because I pay tax on my 1099 earnings at the end of the year). It was higher than usual so I found someone - he did my taxes and saved me about 15% of the amount Turbo Tax said I owed. It was well worth the $120 he charges me.

what version is best for us small business owners? CPA's are wanting too much nowadays.

Pattymelt on here is a CPA, you might want to see if his rates can beat your current guy.

Also, I use Turbotax just because my taxes are easy as hell. Filed my taxes on the 15th, had the money in my account on the 28th.

It's super easy. I've used it every year for the past 6 years. It's very step by step and easy to understand. It's not completely free though. It cost me $60 this year. It's not a percentage. It's a flat rate fee of $30 to file, then I guess they or the government just started charging $30 if you do direct deposit.

That why I do H&R block online free. I've used it for the past 5 or so years. My return is somewhat complicated, and it's still free....but when I nailed his return out in all of 5 minutes, for free, and his return has already been deposited in his acct.
