  • Anyone use Turbotax?

We have used a CPA for years, but they are kinda slow and they charge a percentage of what refund we get.

For example, last year we got about $12k back and the tax preparation fee was about $450.

I'm wanting to try Turbotax, but the wife would rather pay $$$ for someone to do them.

    Pros/Cons?

A pro is you can do them yourself online for free. If you're not happy with the amount, you don't have to file/pay and you can take them to a pro.

Pro is that they can load all my trade data for the year straight from Fidelity...having to go through that manually would be a gigantic kick in the sack.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I use H&R block and my taxes are fairly complicated. I think the most I've ever had to pay was $29 for certain forms, but I've never had issues with it.

I'm not saying this is the norm, but I've seen cases where employees have done unscrupulous things with personal information leading to identity theft.

I'd rather do mine online and have a secure server responsible for my personal info than a person who knows who I am, my personal info including SSN & DOB, my occupation and where I live.

Turbo Tax.. the free one only does basic taxes. If you have more than a simple w-2 to report than you will need to upgrade.

My dad gets it every year and my sisters and I all go over there and bum it.

I did mine with H&R Block online for free this year, verrrry easy and didn't cost me a penny.

I quit using h&r block when they forgot to include my home mortgage interest dedection one year.

If your tax situation is similar from year to year, try turbotax and compare the return you get out of TT to the previous year's return and see what the differences are. If they are similar you are probably doing things right using TT.

The only tax return that i found turbo tax won't do is k1 partnerships. The numbers i got out of TT were wildly out of range for that situation.

I wouldn't use hr block. Their people are not accountants. They are trained to enter info into a computer.

I did a CPA bs turbo tax last year and the came out to the same result. My taxes are pretty simple though.

we use turbo tax for the past 4 yrs, and i really like it. I know nothing about filing tax forms but it walks you through every step and you really cant fuck em up. If you go through every question, i dont think the average person can forget to add any deductions. Its pretty straight forward. Ive paid HR Block before, and the stupid chic , basically does the same thing, except probably their own software version of turbotax. They are pretty useless.

I do mine online using www.hrblock.com and file mine online for free.

Used TurboTax past 3 years. No complaints. Very good at finding any all possible credits, especially regarding donations.
