That should never be a consideration. While wearing that uniform a cop should do what we did in uniform. I took a brick to the kevlar and had to shrug it off because why? Because I was told to and because opening fire would have been a bad thing. Same thing when a kid grabbed the barrel of my SAW and tried to pull it away.
