Going to look at a guys 2001 eddie bauer expedition 4.6l with 117k. Anything in particular I should look for (I'm not a car guy lol). This is pretty cheap and would most likely be my main ride.

Also it seems that these engines are pretty good to go into the 200k range. Anyone know one way or another about that? I'm a little nervous buying a car that old but this one seems pretty nice.

Ive had 2 5.4 expeditions, put over 200k on em and loved them. Never had any problems that were worth mentioning.

        I would love a 5.4 4whl Expedition with under 150k miles.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

also gunna look at an 03 Tahoe with 120k miles. I'll asset the same deal as far as the engines are good for 200+?

The 5.3 has some longevity.. I'm over 150k on my '05 Suburban with no engine issues. You can also get a lower mile used 5.3 for pretty cheap from a wrecking yard. Mileage is shitty though.

My wife drives a Flex and loves it. Easy on gas and we just went to Florida with 6 of us with no issues.

Well the Tahoe ended uping being rolled back 90k miles after I had our auto theft guys look into it. Gunna go test drive two expeditions out tomorrow a 4.6 and a really clean 03 5.6 both with around 125k miles.

Wtf!! How does that happen in modern cars?

                          5.6? You mean 5.4 right ?

Sorry I did mean 5.4. I don't know to tell the truth. I was even in uniform when I went by the place. They said they didn't know any history on the car so I asked our auto theft guys to run it and make sure it was legit and it wasn't. Auto theft told me if the entire dash being switched out is the easiest way to roll them back but like you said I didn't think it could be done either.

Yeah, I have heard of that too. It's not technically a "roll-back". I think if you switch the cluster out without having the dealer "calibrate" it or whatever, it will show the mileage from the vehicle it came out of. I'm assuming what the dealership does is update the mileage from the vehicles computer or something.

Gauge clusters and dash lights have issues on some of these trucks. For example, sometimes my speedometer will get hung up (on zero) or be dramatically off. My oil pressure gauge will also go up, but not down. Lights on some of the dash buttons are burned out (a couple on my steering wheel for example).

There are a lot of people that will refurbish your existing gauge cluster for $50 - $100, or some pull replacements from the junkyard and just swap them (I think that's when you have the mileage issue). There are a number of tutorials online on the parts you need to fix your own but it requires some soldering and whatnot.

It's not a terrible deal, people just let the pumps burn up instead of fixing leaks. You can put regular springs on it.

03 would be a decent year, stay away from the 3V versions until 2008+ when they switched the spark plugs/coils. I mean I'd rather have a Tahoe since they get better fuel economy but the old 5.4s are decent.
