I had an account hacked today and I have the computer IP address. I'm not all that computer savy, but I was curious if the location of the computer used can be pinpointed? From what litle I understand it came from a U-Verse account, but AT&T is no help.

More than likely they phished your username and password to gain entry to whatever account they got into. It all depends though, if it's someone that knows what they're doing, that IP address will probably be useless. It's so easy to ghost/spoof an IP address, which means you see a fake IP address or an address that doesn't really belong to machine the person gained entry from.
If you really want to pursue this, you need to get in touch with the company you have the account with, explained what happened, and it will be their job to pursue it if they choose to.Originally posted by JesterEvery time you see the fucking guy....show him your fucking dick.. ^ yup. Even if it is a real IP, location is not useful most of the time the way IP address allocation is distributed.
You can do a lookup on the IP on arin.net (if US) and send an abuse note to the IP block owner. This will not do much, but it will help possible get some attention to the bad person if they do it alot.
If you sustained any loss of sorts because of the breach, you can open a case with the FBI if it meets certain requirements.
This is all just making a paper trail, most of the time no outcome will come of it.
Still good to do though. You can also make an abuse note with the company that hosts your account. Depending on what the account is they may or may not take actions as well.WRX

Have you reported it to the police? Since IP addresses on the internet are public and assigned by IANA, you can do an IP lookup to determine what company or organization owns that IP pool. If it belongs to a service provider, sometimes they use a mechanism (DHCP Option 82 for example) that relates the IP to a particular customer or physical location/port on the access networking equipment. If the person knew what they were doing and spoofed the IP then likely it will be fruitless.Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension
