  • Apartment advice east of Dallas

My daughter is graduating Texas A&M next month. She has worked for a company in College Station part time for the last year and a half and they are moving her into a full time position when she graduates. Her territory will basically be east of downtown Dallas all the way to Shreveport after 4-5 months of training in Houston. She wants to stay east to be close to east Dallas with easy access to I30 and I20. She also will have a limited budget starting out because she is committed to paying back student loans asap. We went this weekend looking at apartments off 635 between Abrams and Garland Rd. We found a few places that she was happy with the facilities and price but I was not happy with some of what I saw. After reading some online reviews I am really worried about her living in this area by herself. I told her I would subsidize her rent for the 1st year some to help get her into a safer place. I am looking for areas out east that are quieter/safer but also won't break the bank (1bdrm no more than about $775). Any suggestions? I have done a ton of online research but I just don't know the areas enough to know where to focus. Thanks for the help.

What about renting a room in Forney, Rowlett or Rockwall?

I wouldn't move your daughter in anywhere around Audelia area.

There are nice apartments in the white rock area by Garland rd/Buckner but likely out of the budget. I would not want to live between Abrams and Garland rd.

Yeah that's a bad area. You could maybe find some nice apartments in Mesquite. Forney I think is pretty safe, but I've never lived over there. Renting a room sounds like a good idea if it means she'll be safer.

My thoughts exactly. Decent areas, easy access to the highways.

Define "limited budget." I have a client that stays at Cityville at Cityplace off of 75 and Lemmon, which would be really quick access to highways and is really nice, but estimated rent in that building if anywhere from 1200-1600 a month.

OP, what you're looking for does not exist in that immediate area - just went through the same search last year. Further away from downtown will be cheaper and probably safer. I hear Rockwall is nice and booming.

Also, how has no one asked for pictures?

                            Limited budget BLOWN

I do know that there are some apartments going up in Forney but I don't know when they will be done or what the prices will be like. I was suggesting to rent a room mainly because it is cheaper and she won't be alone more than likely.
