Just caught a clip on the news about another shooting at Fort Hood? Came to the site to find out.....and nothing??

There are reports of a shooting at Fort Hood, according to KCEN-TV.

According to the local news outlet, there are reports of multiple injuries from a possible shooting at the military base.

The suspect is still reportedly at large.

KCEN-TV warned, however, that the reports are preliminary.

An individual claiming to be at Fort Hood said the military base is now on lockdown:

(KCEN) -- We have reports of an active shooter on Fort Hood.

We have reports that there are several injuries from this shooting. There is at least one patient being transported to the hospital.

We are also getting reports of victims in the Battle Simulation Center on 65th and Warehouse.

The suspect is still at large. The shooter was said to be in building 33026 which is the Medical Brigade Building.

Fort Hood has been put on lockdown.

Yep, just got a call from my brother down there. He said they are on lockdown. Shooter is still active from what he said.

I have a terminology question here. Why are they called active shooters instead of just shooters? Does there need to be a distinction there? What purpose does it serve to have two terms that mean exactly the same thing?

BP had a text from his wife about 20 minutes ago that she was still hearing gun shots. Apparently it's in the building next to her.

Freaking crazy. Thoughts go out to those on post and those affected by the thoughtless act of said individual/s. My sister was under lock down during the last shooting. Those were the worst hours not knowing if she and my nephew were ok.

Got a guy on 102.5 right now that's barricaded inside. At 5:44 he said SWAT just showed up. He indicated there are 16 Amberlamps on site and apx 90 police cruisers of various sorts.

There was an article about two weeks ago that stated the government knew someone was planning another Ft Hood style shooting, guess they failed again.

Active = still somewhere shooting/hiding/running
Shooter = Could refer to past tense/dead.
