  • Anyone had an interview via Skype? Got some questions.

I have an interview today via Skype. It's with the President of the company, he is in Italy. The company manufactures an extremely cool machine for the metal fabrication industry. It's a PLC controlled CNC Plate Rolling machine -rather a family of machines- that can produce rolled metals for any application you can think of, large things like tanker trucks, boiler tanks, wind turbine foundations, etc... any application where the metal needs to be bent or rolled into a tube or cone, this company makes it.

The position is a Field Engineer for the company. Installation and customer training etc. Good pay, training in Italy, international travel, etc. I am more than qualified and can do the job once specially trained..

I aced the initial 1 on 1 interview with the Field Operations Manager and now am having a second interview via Skype with the President of the company.

The Operations guy wants the President to meet me and ask some questions, and give me a chance to ask some questions as well.

Should I wear a tie? What questions would you ask? Technical questions? Marketing questions ? Future growth questions for both myself and the company?

I can field just about any question asked of me, I just want to ask intelligent questions that will show genuine interest and thought.

Why I am asking you guys, I have no clue. LOL! It's at 10:00 this morning..... so if you have any input, I am all ears.

    Eyes, rather.

Wear a wife beater, a gold rope chain, eat spaghetti, and have Dean Martin playing in the background, that way they know you can blend with Italians.

If you can secure this poster as a backdrop - do it!

I wear a suit to meetings with clients on casual Friday, they can be comfortable, but know I mean business. Your attitude and personality will show them that you aren't pretentious, so don't worry about over-dressing.

I aced it. When I interview, I always ask questions and speak in terms of me already being an employee of said company. The guy in Italy perked up when I started talking about racing... so I ingratiated myself with him quite quickly.

My technical background is without a doubt a match for the position, he just wanted to see if I was the right guy to be the face of the company all over North America. The conversational tone of the interview and him visualizing me in the position, and even in another couple of future positions, such as Sales Engineering and Applications Engineering, told me he thought alot of my personality and capabilities.

It went very well. Decision by the end of this week.
