  • FYI Newer Diesel Owners

There seems to be a group of individuals targeting newer model diesel owners. Primary target is the converters but they are also going for complete exhaust kits if timing is optimal. 2 weeks ago a buddy valet parked his new Dodge diesel at Billy Bobs for a concert and came back out to find his had been stolen. Over the past month 8 company vehicles for a local oilfield company have had theirs stolen from different places. Then today my friends wife was in Dallas at the market for her store and received a call from Dallas PD. Apparently they actually caught a group of guys stealing the converter off her new Dodge diesel. 1 got away but 2 were caught(one ended up with a nice swollen eye from the scuffle)... Apparently they found more that had been sawed off vehicles in the vehicle of the thieves.

Better the converter than the entire trucks that have been stolen just a couple miles from me. Thieves suck but it could be worse

I was having some exhaust work on my old property work truck a couple weeks ago. The truck just before me was having the right hand converter installed after having been sawed off the night before. They've his several of local school bus barns and city yards. These F-ing thieves are all suffering from a lead deficiency in their diets, I strongly feel that if we can help them with this deficiency they'll be less likely to touch what doesn't belong to them.

The officer said they saw the fords and Chevys but use a wrench on dodges because they are more valuable uncut. It's a crazy expensive part to replace

Who buys a used converter? It's illegal to buy and install a used one.

If it wasn't for the 22k horror story 6.7L bills you read about on the internet, mine would be deleted with a big middle finger to the EPA. However I like my warranty too much so FML. So far 31k miles and going strong with all the BS emission on it.

I was in Houston a few months ago and scraped 4 fox body converters and got almost $9x.00. They go by weight and I bet the newer diesel are big and heavy, places still buy them you just have to look. A thief could make a couple of hundred a nite doing that I bet...

Had a list for prices for scrap cats and the imports were getting big money. Like several hundred. So a couple a night can yield some money if you survive pulling that much dumbassery.

Also stealing tailgates off new trucks, especially the 4gen Rams. That's why I use a tailgate lock.

The convertor for my Cummins is like 3k to replace. They're probably stealing them then reselling on EBay.
