Nope, not acceptable. At all, no alcohol and no drugs.

If you don't intend on going back to the office for the day and depending on present company, then I'd say it's ok. On the other hand, you never know who'll you'll run into that may have a problem with it(or you) and could leverage that to get you canned...not worth it.

A couple of beers or a glass of wine is completely acceptable as long as the senior person in the group is partaking. If you deal face to face with customers it's a bad idea or if you operate heavy machinery but if you sit at a desk I don't see a problem. In fact I think it should be expected in certain jobs.
