    • That's bad news. I wish there was some solid info. I'm slightly concerned about my Denton ones.

      • It's disappointing because I wasn't even in DFW when it happened and I work out of town so I can't take one day off to fight the ticket.

There are plenty of vids/reviews for the c50 on youtube, the older version. Pretty cool little gadget. I wouldn't mind owning one for the extra protection and notice.

          • A few years back there was one down the street from me @ an intersection on a curve I know got folks everyday, got me three times. I decided to grab my beater truck one night and get some street justice. I backed over that sunofabitch, leaving it in pieces in the intersection. Fucker was pretty sturdy as it royally fucked up my bumper and tailgate but I wasn't sweating it.

Drove by not a full day later, motherfucker was back up!! I guess I fucked with someone's gravy train.

Arlington voters will decide whether red-light cameras stay or go after a Tarrant County judge dismissed a lawsuit for a temporary injunction on the vote.

In a downtown Fort Worth hearing late Tuesday afternoon, state District Judge Tom Lowe ruled in favor of the city’s plea to move forward with the May 9 election.

“This court is not making a ruling about the validity or void-ability of the election in question. It’s premature for the court to consider the election in question,” Lowe said.

Instead, he went on to quote part of Arlington’s argument that the courts do not have the jurisdiction to interfere with the public’s political right to hold an election.

Jody Weiderman of Arlington filed the suit Feb. 25 against the city of Arlington and Mayor Robert Cluck.

Weiderman told the court that he backed the program for “safety reasons.”

“I think it’s a great program and it needs to stay in the City of Arlington,” Weiderman said.

Assistant City Attorney Robert Fugate repeatedly asked Weiderman if he was being represented by attorneys with American Traffic Solutions, Arlington’s red-light camera vendor. The contract with American Traffic Solutions runs through 2027.

Weiderman said he was not being represented by the company, He also told the court that he has not paid his attorney, Andy Taylor, for his services and did not answer questions about why he was being represented for free.

The Arlington City Council voted Feb. 24 to place the proposed city charter amendment on the May 9 ballot after activists collected a petition of over 9,651 verified signatures from registered voters opposing red-light cameras.

“The judge allowing the election to go forward is what we expected based on Texas Supreme Court cases that uphold there is a separation of powers between courts and a right of the people to have an election,” Fugate said.

Taylor told the court that this isn’t the end of the red-light camera debate. His said it’s merely the first step.

“We believe in the safety of the program because it decreased the number of accidents and saves lives,” Taylor said. “We will continue to fight for this safety project not only in Arlington, but anywhere else that they exist.”

Taylor said he will represent Weidermanot in his appeal.

GPS based Escort detectors have a redlight camera database and the WAZE app also shows you the redlight camera locations for free.

                    • I heard that every city that has had a vote on these has banished them. Can't wait for Arlington to get rid of them!

                      • Well the wife decided to go ahead and run a red light in Fort Worth in my car. And my mother was in the pass seat and told her there was a camera at that intersection...SMH.

Anyways, I am fighting it based on the information in this thread. I am going to send the "payment coupon" back in the mail but this letter will be the only other thing they find in it. Whether or not they choose to read it and do anything about it is on them. This is just a copy/paste from Word. I have the yellow light graphic and correct word spacing in there.

I received a letter claiming I committed a violation of the “Automated Red Light Enforcement Ordinance” in the City of Fort Worth on 02/15/2015. I am writing to plead ‘not guilty’ to this charge and it is my suggestion that the charges simply be dropped. This suggestion comes out of respect for tax payers, and my request that their hard earned money not be wasted in such proceedings. There is no evidence of my involvement with this alleged ‘crime’, as well as the fact that I am not granted my 6th amendment right to face my ‘accuser’ (a camera); I see no way the government could prove my guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. I also see find no legal requirement for me to implicate someone else in this process, as it is the government’s responsibility to prove a person’s guilt. It is also my 5th amendment right to remain silent on the matter.

If it is the City of Fort Worth’s decision to move forward in this matter, I would request copies of any evidence the prosecution may have of my involvement in the “offense”; as well as, all maintenance records for the camera(s) involved. I would also like any other records of the camera itself, as per the video that is provided online (as best as I could make of it) the yellow light lasts for 3.83 seconds, falling noticeably short of what it should be for a speed limit zone of 40 mph. It does not appear to be working properly and this “violation” should be dismissed due to malfunctioning equipment. The proper yellow light hold time should be 4.5 seconds for a 40 mph speed limit zone according to the institute of transportation engineers:

                        Recommended Yellow Light Times
Three seconds should be the absolute minimum time for any intersection.
                        25 MPH -- 3.0 Seconds
                        30 MPH -- 3.5 Seconds
                        35 MPH -- 4.0 Seconds
                        40 MPH -- 4.5 Seconds
                        45 MPH -- 5.0 Seconds
                        50 MPH -- 5.5 Seconds
                        55 MPH -- 6.0 Seconds
For your information, a technical explanation of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) formula for calculating yellow light times is included below (source):

I feel it should also be mentioned that I was not the operator of the vehicle that committed the violation in the video. It may be the City of Fort Worth’s ordinance to incriminate the vehicle owner and not operator, but this is simply violating my due process and rendering a verdict of guilty to someone who was not involved.
Additionally, should this request of dismissal be ignored, it is my understanding that this violation will have late fees added to it, the registration for my vehicle be blocked from renewal, and eventually the fine be sent to a credit agency for collection.
I wish to explain why each of these things will not only waste the City of Fort Worth’s time but the Red Light Enforcement agencies time as well.
                        1) Late fees being added to the initial fine will not compel me further to pay the fine
                        2) Ron Wright, the Tarrant County Tax Assessor is a staunch opponent of the red light camera system and has openly stated he will not block vehicle registrations due to unpaid red light tickets
                        3) Per Section 392.001 subsection h, of the Texas Finance Code, :
                        a. A local authority or the person with which the local authority contracts for the administration and enforcement of a photographic traffic signal enforcement system may not provide information about a civil penalty imposed under this chapter to a credit bureau, as defined by Section 392.001, Finance Code
Essentially, the fine will be ignored, registration renewal of my vehicle will not be impeded and if the City of Forth Worth or the Red Light Enforcement agency attempts to place a collection claim on my credit report (which is against Texas Law), it will be immediately disputed and removed, only further wasting tax payer time and money.
I humbly and respectfully ask this violation to be dismissed.
                        Sincerely,
                        Brian Minter

                          • I had 3 red light tickets in Plano in 2014. They kept sending me notices and threats about blocking my registration and I just threw them away and never paid. I just renewed my registration on Thursday without any problems.

                              I will definitely update.

While reading the transportation code, I found this:

Sec. 707.005. MINIMUM CHANGE INTERVAL. At an intersection at which a photographic traffic monitoring system is in use, the minimum change interval for a steady yellow signal must be established in accordance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

I need to find that Manual and see if that intersection was in compliance. It would work much better to my favor than quoting a non governmental statistic.
