Here is a great article from 2008, basically from what I understand, soon after this article was written, this situation evolved to the point where JWP committed extortion against the Allen Group. The federal case includes a lot of other potential charges from other shakedowns from what I have heard. Tax evasion, bails of hundred dollar bills in freezers, cars bought by other people, etc, etc

You'll love this. During my brief stint at Pep Boys in 2000 I had a black fellow get mad at me about about having to pay the $8 battery core charge until he brought back his old one. He threatened to have JWP picket my store if I didn't take it off. I unintentionally burst out laughing at him and told him to let me know when he was going to be there so I could watch. Guy paid the core and walked out confused. I guess he had had success with that line of bullshit elsewhere in the past.
