A guy I know was in some Senate Committee this week (housing or banking or some shit) in Washington and some economist got on the mic and said as soon as they raise rates the shit hits the fan. No one in the room batted an eye. Everyone knows this is coming and it will kill the stock market and housing but it has to be done. The market is only high because you can't get a decent return in many other places. I am in commercial real estate and the market is at least as juiced up as it was in 2007. They'll ease up on the tightening on the short end, the interesting thing to see will be what happens on the long end. I send out our updates every day and 2 weeks ago the 10 YR was at 2.40 ... today it's 2.63. We think the 10 year stays lower than most expect for a while - have some pretty interesting perspectives on it. We're watching to see if it creeps up in that 2.80 range. We don't feel the equity markets are vastly out of line - a bit on the rich side, sure, but not insane. I put my order in this morning ($66) and it got kicked back by Scottrade. Something about you could not place a limit order on an IPO before it traded? Then just minutes before it started trading they were saying 92.60-93 so I changed the order to $93. It allowed me to place the order and I ended up buying at the initial 92.70.
