  • We put some cowhides in the scottrade account today. Trying to decide on getting in (if it is available at the $60-$66 target), or waiting to see what Amazon, Apple, or other big stocks do around that time.

I have done okay with PLUG and ICPT but both are still a little high to re-enter right now. JCP is doing well but it also is a bit high for me to think about buying more.

You really need to broaden your horizon. There is alot out there that can make plenty of money but staying on top of it is key.

      • That is what I am looking around for.....ideas.

Thought about buying some PANW but $100 a share.
WFM keeps getting pushed by Cramer
TRN - seemed good for a bit but I have lost a bunch on one of the marketwatch games there

Looking back through my list of "watch"
Gpro....seems high but no telling where it is headed
        LUV....near 52 week high
        BAC...
        F...
        MMM.
WWE ... since it tanked a while back

I also still have positions in
        KO
        FCEL

Plus mutual funds (through advice of Principal broker)
        CCHIX...CMNCX...CNMCX...PCUFX...PMDDX...PRFCX

You missed the boat on gopro about 3 weeks ago other then it's opening ipo. The one thing is look at stocks that you can afford to buy a shit ton so that small growths can equal payouts vs exspensive stocks that you have a small investment in and you have to hope for a miracle of a run for it to pay.

          • Ok just looked at some of those you mentioned and the cheapest was wwe while its somewhat afforadable those 30 plus aren't as it doesn't sound like your trading with very much Capitol. The one big picture you have to look at is the what the reality of the stock is to grow and how much is that going to pay back when you are automatically out 15 or so bucks for fees. So buying a handful is just making someone else money.

So in your opinion would it be better to stick with S, F or BAC? Something under say 20 a share, (probably with a dividend), and load up?

                We're thinking gopro's a short.

                That makes no sense.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I was curious about that. I was thinking if I was making (say round numbers for example) $300 on an investment of $800. It did not matter if I was trading 4 shares or 200 shares. $300 profit is $300......less taxes.

ICPT went from $230's entry to nearly $400 on a run and done it twice.
PLUG was 7.80's to 9 something the first and then 4.20's to mid 6 something
I made about the same on each deal because of the # of shares??? And being both stocks are still not back up to what I sold them for. I feel like I did the right thing at the right time. If I wanted to, right now. I could take the same money and buy more shares than I had the last time and hope for another run.

Yeah I was afraid my thinking and typing wouldn't go anywhere here.

I see what your saying about the transaction fees, average per share being lower if you buy more shares at once. But I was trying to figure out how it is a disadvantage in that route if the total profit is the same?

I will take any and all help from you all in this adventure. Without the game and people talking about it on this site I would still be on the sidelines.

Yep I've learned alot and I think my method at the moment may not be a liked one but I'm learning as well. We could always start another game. The last one wouldn't ever let me log in so I never played after day one.

                        • I have joined a couple of random games on marketwatch. I don't know enough about how to set the limits so that it is like real trading. I know some games allow you to short stocks that you can't short via a real trade account. Did not know that was possible but people complain about it all the time.

I plan to join a game and try a long term strategy instead of day trading. Something like Apple, yahoo, google, amazon, and other large stocks. Then just let it ride. That was my plan when I started my scottrade account. Then Plug made the run and Icpt did the same. Without a dividend, I felt I was leaving cash on the table by riding the waves.

                            • I have been watching for a re-entry point there. I am thinking I am going to wait for a dip under $4.50.
