Can you imagine? Since 1974, going through the growing pains, surviving layoffs, moving offices, switching departments, working for a manager 30 years younger than you, taking paycuts, etc. I'm pretty proud of my Dad, because he reached 40 years as an employee of the same company a little earlier this month. No shenanigans, cupcakes, gifts or anything, just an email from HR congratulating him on his "milestone achievement". I asked him if he even told anyone....he said "no"! Anyway, just thought I'd share this among the DFWmustangs ballers.

Unfortunately companies aren't as loyal as they once were either. I've only been at my present company for 15 years, but still no drop in the bucket, and though my immediate manager appreciates the time I've invested, the company is only concerned with the numbers.

And this is what you have to watch out for. If their plans do not go accordingly, layoffs will ensue so that the SVP's can show a return for the quarter vs. a loss. All so they don’t get put on the chopping block though, with the salary of a SVP, they would be in a position to weather a layoff more successfully than a lower wage employee.

my grandfather retired from the air force, and then retired twice before he finally retired for good.

I'm starting my 5th with Dell. Longest I've ever stayed with a company. However this is my 3rd role with the company so maybe that has something to do with it.

I had an employee that put in 45 and had to convince the company to honor his time and let him retire as opposed to shitcanning him because time had passed him by.
