I don't lock my car most of the time. I leave the top down alot, so no point in locking it. I'll leave my keys in the glove box or if the top is up in the gas cap.

Why the hell would you leave your keys anywhere but your pocket or your kitchen counter when not in your car?

That is just looking for trouble. I may be the minority on this but all that takes is for some little shit kid to see you do that then throw your keys across a highway or in the bushes.

My kitchen counter is on the opposite side of the house from where I park.
