I very recently jumped aboard the aviation wagon, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it (Falcon jet mechanic, student pilot, and various other small affiliations). My father is a Boeing 777 pilot (also rated for the -300 model) and former USAF pilot. My uncle is an electrical engineer for Boeing and my grandfather worked for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing as well as NASA/USAF. He has some incredible stories from the Space Race era. He went into the (then) top secret X-20 Dyna-Soar project as the youngest man (only 50 were included). Now, he's the only one left with the complete story of that program. I'll have to post his writeup of the whole thing, as it's a great read.

It's an AT cornucopia too.... (VF-103 \ F-14)
From a previous conversation, I think Couver and I may have passed each other in formation going to\from the chow hall in San Diego.... lol

12 years F16 and C130 CrewChief and a couple years in the engine shop. You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

Been around airplanes my whole life. First airplane ride was in "Chuckie" at six years old - a Lockheed built B-17G. Went on the airshow circuit with the B-17 Chuckie while it was owned by the Hospers Clan. Dad was a crew member and he would pull me out of school - those were awesome days.
Have flown in various old airplanes. Was active in CAP, did my fair share of search and rescue missions to find planes that didn't make it back to the airport. Few false alerts along the way too - and most pilots' were complete assholes about the situation.
Pilot's license at 22, been flying off/on ever since. Still try to stay somewhat plugged into the old airplane world.

26 years flying for AA. Just bailed off of the '80, and transitioning to the 757/767.
I have been reading this whole thing from day one. So many conflicting reports from so many
different sources. Sounds like the Malaysian government agency that oversees aviation
has their head up their ass. It is hard to make a 777 disappear with all the reporting
equipment on-board. Give it another week, I believe that Boeing is in this now. They have
more resources than the airline does.

Pilots can begin training at any age and can solo balloons and gliders at age 14, powered aircraft at age 16.[3]
Exactly what year? I had to wait until my 17th birthday to receive my PPL in 1974.
