I know not everyone has had this advantage, but I grew up in places where you could get shot for this and daughters/kids knew it. Also, getting shot for trespassing - yeah it may go to cops but everyone would side with the property owner.

Even at 16/17 years old, kids are smart enough to know how bad they are messing up. To me the differentiating factor between what I did and what is going on here is the 0200 aspect. Even the after school hook-ups, I'd run like a son of bitch if I even heard a car on a gravel driveway a mile away - cause I knew anything could happen. (Honestly, it made it that much more fun)

At 0200 - I personally never even consider it and am not aware of anyone in those areas who would consider it.

I understand it seems very severe and I probably would've sided with you before being a parent. Post parent - there is pissed off and there is the pissed off you get for protecting the kids. Messing with someone's daughter, at 2 in the morning, in a father's home is the perfect recipe.

I've heard a few stories of those shooting through the front door of the house and not receiving charges. Joe Horn in Houston killed two unarmed intruders who broke into his neighbor's house and possibly shooting them in the back as they fled. Slippery slope.

I only recall reading one where the homeowner shot through the door, personally. In that case the person was banging on the door in such a way that it appeared he was breaking in. I think the shooter was a woman? And the guy was high or drunk and apparently thought he was at his house. The shooter was no-billed I believe.

As to the Houston one, I don't recall it, but if they had stolen property when running, seem like that would be a "good shoot" too.

I am referring to stories around the nation. There was another just recently where a teen shot an intruder and wounded him. I think there was one a year or more ago of an old lady doing the same thing...

Brent, you're skipping over the fact that the daughter said she didn't know him. At that point, especially in the heat of the situation, you're going to protect your family. This is a terrible situation, but it rests solely on the bad choice of the daughter to lie. He didn't shoot the boy because he was diddling his daughter. He shot him because he thought he had broken into the house.

No, I'm not. If you can't tell when your 16 year old kid is lying, you're probably a shitty parent and/or in complete denial. If she truly didn't know who he was, her actions and body language would have said it all.
