No matter what even if someone is hiding it they are going to have to sit on it FOREVER before they can use it. Once they take off and get inside of someones radar range and the thing is not communicating any information its going to be target practice for some country's fighter jets.
Unless you clone the flight info for another flight int he flight path you want and shadow them or take them out completely. Or hell, get a really decent governmental agency to input false flight info for this plane, have it respond to the falsified info and just take it where you want.

I'm thinking long range missile system for a country that cannot actually afford a real missile.

Or Iran. Or even China. I know how I'd use something like this and I'm not even that clever. Using a civilian plane to take out a target? You ground all planes (again) for days, crash economies, and cause all kinds of issues.

All of that has so many flaws and red flags it would never get beyond a few minutes before things went wrong. I don't disagree with the last statement, but it would be hard to use it beyond a very close location to where it is now assuming it is hidden somewhere. I think it is at the bottom of the ocean. No cell phone calls out if someone was hijacking it, nothing?

            • IF someone has it all they have to do is change the transponder codes and leave that engine and other auto reporting off. Then ATC sees it as just another plane.

If the plane's onboard cellular network was shut off, the passengers wouldn't have been able to make any calls.

Besides, if the pilots did the hijacking, the passengers would be unaware of anything at all until they were on the ground.

What makes me think this isn't state sponsored is this...

If a country wanting to steal a plane and use it as a weapon actually did it... why not use a plane at their own international airport? Either way, they're going to kill everyone on board.

Why cause all this hoopla and eventual multi-country hatred? Have a couple psychopaths fly a legit chartered jet with a nuclear payload into whatever city you want and detonate it 2,000 feet above earth. No stupid-ass hijacking conspiracy BS creating billions of electronic eyes. Deny everything.

Hell, drop the pressure in the cabin and everyone dies but the flight crew. Fly it nap of the earth and you don't show up on radar.

                    • What do you think happened to that airplane? All I have to say is that if I owned an airline, I would INSIST that all of my 777s, which each cost over 250 Million Dollars, have some sort of tamper proof LoJack system on them. I mean come on really? The plane costs a quarter of a BILLION dollars. There's no homing beacon that emits a high energy ping every 20 minutes, that's encased in crash proof titanium, and emits a signal strong enough to be heard from the bottom of the ocean? It's hidden on each plane in a different location, where not even the pilots know where it is- and you can't just turn it off. For $100 you can buy a Walkie Talkie that can be heard for 10 miles. I would think for $10,000 they could install something like that!

                      Do not fly Malaysia airlines!

Sure, but my point being that everyone dies still applies... Passengers of the Malaysia flight or the passengers of the unwitting plane carry the device. You're still going to lose a couple trained pilots flying a converted 777 dirty bomb. Why make all the fuss if you're goal is to use a plane in a state-sponsored terrorism act? Use an accessible plane that makes the flight you want. No one is the wiser and the world won't be hunting for the missing mystery plane and risk exposure. Drop from 35,000 to 2,000 way before a fighter can ever be scrambled and detonate the device. Easier, cleaner, much less world-wide scrutiny.
