Shotgun driver or auto transport?

I'm considering purchasing a truck that is located in California and I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me when it comes to my options in getting it home. Of course price is a concern, but so is safety for the vehicle. Does anybody have first hand experience with either method?

IIRC, I thought we had a member that did/does this.

I used http://www.uship.com to get my RC51 from San Diego to DFW. I was 100% percent satisifed and saved 50% over a regular carrier.

$300 in 2006 or 2007. It was a retired couple that raced their car at different tracks all over the country on weekends. They had room in their enclosed trailer for my bike and made some extra spending money.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with uship, don't you pretty much have to wait until there is someone driving in your direction? I've heard it can take weeks and months sometimes.

True. I have a buddy in SD and he kept the bike in his garage until I had something lined up. You might get lucky with the timing though, prolly worth a look at least.

I had a car shipped from Ohio 4-5yrs ago, and it was about $700

use a certified/insured shipper

I also thought about renting a uhaul pick-up truck and trailer and making the drive. Just thinking it's more trouble than I want to deal with.

Orange CA. I thought about that also, but truck has a 10gal fuel cell. That's gonna require a lot of stops.

Lol. I've made that drive many, many times before when I was stationed at Pendleton, so I'm not scared. The 10gal fuel cell is going to require that I stop about every two hours and this drive has a lot of long stretches with nothing in sight.

When I moved back from SoCal this is what I did. It was expensive though, I wasnt to say 1500 for truck and trailer (I used a full size trailer as I didnt want to have to disconnect my drive shaft and drag my mustang accross the country).

Also, be advised, UHaul does not supply vehicles with cruise control
