I had a bike as my only transportation for about two years, so I've ridden in plenty of Texas winter weather, and full gear only keeps the cold at bay for a quick minute.

Ridden in plenty of shitty cold weather. Wind Blocking, Layers, and finally heated gear. If you can keep the wind out you've won most of the battle. The rest is layering for warmth or if the ride is long enough just invest in heated gear.

Now riding in snow or ice? No. I'll find a campground or hotel for the night.

None of that sounds fun. The only reason sport bikes or fun are for the performance. You can't ride them hard in sleet....

I learned a long time ago that once leather gets cold you are screwed. I'll take by ballistic nylon with a liner any day over any leather. I've ridden at near freezing temps in the sleet, but inky because my car was down and that's all I had to get to work and back. At the time my riding jacket was one of my dads old leather biker style jackets. The zippers never wanted to work right and the leather was stiff as shit in the cold. I'd layer as much as I could under it and wore walls blizzard proof bibs.

I got the bright idea to go out to Shreveport today. On the way back, I hit major ice and snow, but fortunately I was in my sisters AWD grand cherokee. Saw a bunch of people that slid off the road. I-20 stopped dead right before highway 69 in Tyler, major wreck. Did the back road boogie all the way home.

Finally made it back home and remembered that the water was on at my car lot, so I had to drive to crandall to turn it off. Half way there, a newer Charger came flying around a curve and lost it, nearly hitting me head on, but I had quick enough reflexes to drive off in the ditch. He at least stopped to make sure I got back on the road.

How in the ever loving fuck does ice stick to the ground when it was 60 degrees earlier in the day and 82 degrees the day before?

What has changed? This never used to happen. I'm getting ready to head to work and the roads in the neighborhood are iced over. The driveway exits onto a hill. Luckily, there is a curb to bounce off of in order to make the s-curve at the bottom.

The silver lining from this weather is the bugs shouldn't be a problem this summer.
