Does the 1/4" impact really bust lug nuts and more like the 1/2" drive can?

I found a brand new in box Dewalt 20v 5 tool combo kit for $375, no tax... but was thinking the 1/4 impact might not be tough enough to get things done...

Definitely go with a kit/combo pack. You typically save money in the form of batteries. My drill/impact combo with 2 batteries was $200+ tax. The batteries are ~$100 each by themselves

x10. The IR is a monster! We have a snap on and it's costing me $175 to have rebuilt. We already rebuilt the batteries with Ni-MH cells and it works great. Brushes finally gave up after 7 years of HARD use.

They are very useful for construction.

Its an impact because it impacts while turning rather than just spins...

They make weak ass 1/4 inch air impacts as well. Ive got a snap on 3/8 and a dewalt impactdriver.

If i was to get another it would be a 1/2 inch ingersol.

I have been using my dewalt 18v lithium 3/8 impact for a couple years on a daily basis. I have used it for anything from motor jobs to lug nuts. MOST of the time it will break the lugnuts loose on my vehicles and trailer tires. Would be very useful for track use....

The short, it's the best tool i have ever bought!

i use mine as a 1/4" impact. i dont expect to get the same torque from it as i would a 1/2" the same as i cant torque as much with a 1/4" ratchet like i can a 1/2".

I know why it's called an impact... Sorry I wasnt clear. Should have asked if they work for most other car work besides lug nuts? it sounds like a 1/2 is the way to go

I can just about entirely disassemble and reassemble my buggy solely with the impact, I've done it twice already. Just use a torque wrench to cinch things up. Fwiw, the impact is rated at 1400in/lb, and even tho they call it 20v its actually still only 18v.

And yeah I was just being a smartass above

I use my impact for general maintenance, suspension, brackets, etc.

And the 1/4" gets it done cj? I kust dont know how I can pass on this combo kit for the price... It's tough to buy a nice.impact alone, the value is just much better in the kit

I didn't buy the dewalt combo kit because it sold before I could get it.

I bought the Rigid 1/4" impact driver kit and ended up returning it. It couldn't even break caliper bolts loose that came off pretty easily with a ratchet. I was disappointed as the Rigid was rated the most torque for it's size out of the models I checked.

I'm not sure how you guys seem to use them and have any luck that isn't a dedicated impact wrench. Now I'm looking for a 1/2" cordless impact wrench that isn't $200+ with the battery and charger.

I use the highest end makita. I have heard the new makita brushless is even better. It's strong, but it isn't going to replace a pneumatic impact. You can do about 70% of all the bolts on your vehicle. It's not a do-it-all, it's a supplement.

Does not exist, better hit up CL. I bought a 1\2 snapon for my dad at Xmas for $600 but the dealer threw in a really cool set of steak knives.
