I don't see it as being any different than a policeman that shoots a dog when he tells it to stop and it won't. What do they do to a cop, more training. This guy should have fired a warning shot. He needs to be given wildlife avoidance training and a serious warning.

As a monday morning qb, I would say he could have given the moose a little more time to see if it was really charging a second time or going on its way, but I can see how someone would have reacted that way in the heat of the moment.

Now if I had done that I would have destroyed the video so it would be my word against the moose and this would have never made the news.

After the first lunge at my chest I'd probably have my gun pointed at it too....I think I might have waited to see if it came at me again before dumping half the magazine into it...but without being there at the time and feeling the adrenaline/fear he was feeling...yeah.....I'da prolly put a few rounds in it too. Couple years ago at a dirt bike/ATV park north of Waco I was back in the brush on my DRZ riding around a bit aggressively by myself and when I rounded a corner found myself staring at a medium size wild hog in the middle of my trail I was able to stop before pole vaulting over it thank god but if I hadn't and it didn't run...that could have been messy.

Agreed. The guy should have been more patient from a distance. What did he expect when he pulled up on it? I doubt he would have escalated the situation if he wasn't carrying.
