I just back from the river, kept three good channel cats, through back probably a dozen small ones, and lost one nice catfish that would have probably went 30 pounds. It is really nice to have a small Jeep that can fit down four wheeler trails, I am able to get pretty far back on the river and get to spots that most people don't go.

What river? Yea having a vehicle like that has some good benefits. The river near forney is pretty popular.

Sabine River just south of Longview. There are some trails down there that lead to spots on the river, but the one that goes way back is blocked by a big deadfall on a very tight corner, I barely had room to squeeze by it and in the process knocked some bark from the other trees.

I've never fished with jug lines but have thought about taking a few with me and throwing them out while I bass fish and come back to check them after I'm done fishing.

Thats basically what we did this weekend. I just felt a little like we were cheating. I had never done it before, and it is so easy, it takes the challenge out of it.

I think I will keep doing it to insure there is some kind of result out of the trip.

I would only do it for eating purposes, I don't keep the bass and I rarely take time to fish for Crappie or sandbass so I don't ever have anything to bring home.

So it is all about the sport for you? I think I lie somewhere in the middle of wanting to bring something home to eat, and having fun with the challenge.

Yeah it's all about the sport for me. I never go with the intention of catching something for food.
Crappie and perch are really the only two fish I care to catch to eat.
I hate fucking cleaning catfish and rarely cook with it so I don't bother fishing for them.
Now crappie and perch,, even sand bass work but those two work great for blackened fish, sauteed fish etc.
