Bad call this morning

I got a call from my grandparents this morning telling me the constable for Hunt County was looking for me so I decided to give the constable a call. Seems they wanted me for felony theft as I stole a laptop. After doing some question and answers, come to find out my father (same first and last name as mine) used my SSN and birth date to get a laptop from a rental place and then just skipped on the bill. The rental place referred it to the prosecutor and my grandparents got the call.

To say I'm twisted doesn't begin to start. I spent 2 hours on the phone making calls to various offices in Hunt county to get this handled and am doing an affidavit next week pressing charges. This is my morning.

Nope. Even if the rental place drops charges, I'm not. He's always joked that he gave me his name because I have great credit and pay my bills. Looks like he wasn't joking

I'd freeze all my credit info immediately... if it happened once... next time will be worse.

Yeah.. Probably should go through your 3 credit reports now to see if there may be something already on there that you don't know about (maybe he made other purchases that aren't delinquent yet).

It's not just about paying what he owes, there are criminal charges pending now.

Besides, if he were to do what you suggest, the dad will just keep doing it to him. I know some people who have parents that live off them like this (using their credit and stuff like that). That is not a road you want to travel down.
