    • I'm selling my Volvo station wagon that has been my fun project for the past ten years. My goal was to build a lightweight, good-handling, fuel efficient wagon for autocross, drifting, and daily driving. Every nut and bolt has been turned on this car towards that purpose. No project is ever finished but this is a fun, reliable, and strangely sporty car that does many things well.

      The chassis is a 1985 Volvo 760 station wagon. The engine is a turbodiesel VW 2.4 litre 6-cylinder that was originally from another 80's Volvo. The transmission is an M47 5-speed and the rear axle is a 3.31 Dana 30 locker. The turbo helps bring the diesel to life but I wanted more power and upgraded to a Ford SVO turbo compressor housing and added a Mark III Supra intercooler. The engine starts and runs well with a but of smoke on hard acceleration (like any Texas diesel truck).

      To sport up the handling I lightened the car and added chassis braces as well as a stiff suspension. Curb weight is 2,760lbs with 52/48 weight distribution. The hood is aluminum, the sunroof has been replaced by a sheet of polished metal, and the interior has been stripped. Deep bucket seats keep you connected to the car when sliding sideways and a Grant sport steering wheel help with Scandinavian flicks. The rest of the interior is gutted, but I've installed a custom dashboard and rewired the whole car. Half the gauges are hooked up and the other half need to be connected.

      The front shocktowers are braced top and bottom and a very strong skidplate protects the engine. The front suspension has polyurethane radius rod bushings and the rack and pinion is extremely precise. Front shock aborbers are Bilstein HD's and the rear has Koni yellows. Front and rear springs are stiffer than the originals. IPD 1" front and rear swaybars eliminate body roll. Don't let the ride height fool you; this car is STIFF.

      Wheels are rare 15"x7" BBS style rims from a Volvo 780 Bertone. Good tires front and rear with lots of tread and no dryrot. There is a trailer hitch in the back and plenty of cargo space for a mountain bike, an extra set of wheels, a 55-gallon drum full of biodiesel, or whatever else your imagination can come up with.

      Comes with a multitude of spare parts, an extra set of wheels, injection pump parts, suspension bushings, filters, springs, etc.

      This car has been fun and reliable the whole time I've owned it. I never thought I would sell it and have invested far too many hours (weeks) into building and tuning this car. At the moment I have too many car projects and am selling this Volvo and a Lotus Esprit Turbo to free up money and time for another build. Asking $2,950 and as the saying goes, cash talks.
