Do remote start for another ten minutes. That's what I do when it's really cold.

I will have to try that, thanks.

      • Remote start is my favorite feature overall, even moreso than heated/cooled seats on newer cars. GM is pretty awesome too as their remote link app will let you start your car from anywhere in the world if you have an internet connection. Realistically, it's good for when you are at the other end of the mall or whatever and you want to start the car as you're walking towards it, but you're still way out of range of the key fob.

        • I need to see if I can get that app. A coworker has that on his Grand Cherokee and loves it. You can heat the seats and all from anywhere, no set distance. He does it from his iPhone.

          • Download the Onstar RemoteLink app. It'll work on your vehicles as they are pretty new. It works pretty good.

            • Do you need the Onstar subscription though? I opted out of that after the trial.

Yea I never understood why GM made it so short, at least Ford lets you up it to 15min. Even at 15 being a diesel mine just barely has the windshield thawed.

Yes, I think you need the subscription for it to work.

That's why my truck has a Clifford in it. I can start it from almost 2 miles away.

Mine shuts off in 12 minutes and on the really cold mornings I go through almost two full cycles before I go outside to leave for work.

                      • My F550 aptly named "The BEAST". This was one of two that I had in Kabul back in 2006 until 2008 that we used convoys. Since those days it has moved around a few times and has been up here in my new area of operations for a year.

2005 F550 4wd dually fully uparmored with a armored "personnel carrier" in the bed and a lift gate. The "personnel" part of that theory doesn't work so well. Usually results in someone getting hurt or them puking everywhere from motion sickness.

Truck weighs somewhere near 16,000-17,000 pounds.

Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

That's a lot of steel, our 3500's with a toolbox bed and hoist only weigh 11-12k. We have actually received overweight tickets due to one having 2 50hp electric motors in the bed.

There is probably 1,000 pounds of glass between the front windshield and the 4 windows. Hell, probably closer to 1,200 pounds. I would laugh at small arms fire up to a Dishka and the capsule design holds up well to IEDs and VBIEDs (to a degree). God only knows what that armored box in the back weighs. I am trying to get it removed since we don't really need it where I am at. Driving this bitch through traffic in downtown Kabul, Afghanistan was a fucking blast (no pun intended) back in the day. I have torn an entire side up on more than one or two Toyota Camary's, ran flat over a motorcycle, and dug the front lugs into a few cars. On the nice stretches the turbo loved the extra weight. The drawback to the trucks though was that the A/C sucked ass and in the hot summer months I would have people puking in their helmets in the back seat. The windows don't roll down as you can imagine. The top hatch is only supposed to be an emergency escape if the truck rolls on to its side but we could get some air in there that way.
