International(UK) shipping

I have some pc components I'm giving to a buddy in the UK and he's covering the shipping, but I've never shipped there before. Is there a "best" or "best priced" shipper I should look at? I checked the two popular ones, FedEx and UPS and there was a huge price disparity between them to the tune of 163 on the low end and 580 on the high.
