I have heard Edradour is excellent, but I can't seem to find it anywhere locally.

You likely won't. It is produced in such small quantities that exports are virtually nonexistent. I had some in Scotland, and a friend there sent me a small bottle (wee dram size).

I'm a newb when it comes to scotch, do you mind giving a basic overview of it?

Came in to post this. The Portwood is my absolute favorite, but feels more special occasion-ey to me. Really enjoy the Caribbean Cask and Oban, too.

I'm an Oban 14/Balvenie 15 freak, best bang-for-the-buck Scotches, IMO.

I do mind. Young palates typically don't like scotch. I hated it for decades. My recommendation is to go to a bar that specializes in it and try different stuff with the direction of somebody who knows what's what.

Yes, you'll spend a bunch of money, but it beats spending $50-100 on a bottle of something that you think tastes like atomic horse piss

I'm a fan of Johnnie Walker Blue, but it's expensive.
