I had Mike put a roof on my house a few years ago; he did a top notch job and came in at a really good price. His people picked up the nails and trash out of the yard too.

I don't know what happened in this case, but one thing strikes me - when you want work done perhaps it is best to spell out everything that needs to be done in a contract beforehand, and specify the milestones that must be achieved before a payment will be made. That way, everyone knows and agrees on the work to be done and when payments will be made. I see this all of the time in my line of work, and when there is no contract explicitly spelling out the scope of the work feelings get hurt when things go wrong.

Mike - this goes for you too - protect yourself with a contract.

Well, yeah, that is something that makes sense.

But, If you didnt know anything about cars, and you needed a timing belt done, would you automatically know that it would be a good idea to put a water pump and maybe seals in while you are in there? Usually (since you arent mechanically savvy) you would rely on the shop/service advisor to help you out with what needs to be done at the same time, just as a GC should do. If you already know the ins-and-outs of getting it done, you could hire the subs yourself, and wouldnt need the GC.

As it relates to underbidding I get that, but it's shady to look at other peoples bids and then reprice your job to win the work.

That being said I have a negative review for you. Your crew destroyed the front yard at my rent house and I was told it was par for the course. Did a piss pour job with concrete patches and left a general mess (food wrappers and cans). Again told by your guy it was par for the course. It also took 2 months to get a receipt and final repair paperwork after you were paid. Not to mention I basically begged you to get me quotes on drywall repair, bathroom remodel and new flooring. You never delivered one single quote after I waited around for over a month. Before you tell these people you are trying to feed your family you need to work on your follow through and GC skills.

You happen to be standing in 6" of mud with myself and the foundation guy when I stated "Where is my grass?" and my response of "Fuck that sucks". You responded with once it rains some it will level out and that I should just re seed it.

I paid you half up front (poor choice) to which you were unable to provide a receipt for at the time I handed you a check. I requested numerous times for receipts, foundation survey and warranty paperwork. Your delay in payment was due to you unable to get the paperwork from your sub.

If you had no interest in doing the quotes why did you string it along for over a month? Be a man and say I'm not interested.

Point being you are a lack luster GC, poor business man and don't appear to be a stand up guy. I avoided stating anything publicly about you because I know what word of mouth does to a business. However when you got so high and mighty in here, you and the others needed to be told the truth.

Couple of things about this were bothering me, so I went back by today and took some pictures of your "yard". You state my guys destroyed your yard, yet, there really isn't any yard to speak of in any of the work areas. In one pic, there is a good view of a patch where we had to go through sidewalk to get the pier in. That looks good. In the other areas, we had to remove brick, do our thing, then reinstall the brick. The only real place the yard could have been messed up is in the rear. No way we would have left mounds of dirt on the sidewalks that cover three and a half sides of the work area. So, what gives? Then, the other yard pics show bare dirt. Are you mad that they left footprints in the mud? It had been raining for a week prior, and you were in a hurry to get it done.

At the end of the day, you're showing your ass because I refused to do more work for you after you took two weeks to pay me for completing the job. This after beating me to death on price, telling me over and over how tight your budget was, how you wanted to do the work yourself, but needed to get it done. And, if I'm not mistaken, you did end up replacing the rotted out siding and painting it yourself.

At any rate, look at the pics of his "yard", look at the work areas where we would have been putting in piers, and draw your own conclusions.

Also, you four internet bullies are fine examples of upstanding citizens, with morals and character beyond reproach! Especially Matt, with your putting what Sean gossiped to you out there. Yale has never met me, neither has Mayfield, Matt a couple of times, Sean, I actually tried to teach roofing to prior to his moving back from Colorado. Actually ordered cards and threw them away after offering him half of the profit on any roof he sold.

So much for that effort. I have multiple times now, as evidenced by Matts photo shop above, had stuff I told him in confidence show up on this board.

Why?

It's pretty simple. Your crew dug 16 to 18 holes around the house and had dirt left over. Instead of removing the dirt you or the crew made the decision to spread it over the yard hap haphazardly. Taking what was a fairly flat yard and making it a mess. Do you not recall stating "ehh a couple rains and it will smooth right out" after I complain to you directly? Your crew also left trash around the yard and on the front porch. I don't know where you work now, but where I work that is unacceptable.

Regarding price. I shared with you the price from another quote (as you asked) and you gave me an estimate (not written). I did tell you the budget was limited before the estimate was given. I didn't beat you up on price. As a matter of fact I didn't ask you to lower your price at all. You also had a "down" check the next day. As stated you were delayed in the final payment because of you inability to follow through with the paperwork. Regarding the other quote request. I requested those before and during the foundation repair work. If you didn't like the way I handled my business you should have been man enough to say so instead of dragging your ass.

These facts are simple

Edit: I stand corrected. It took you 3 months from the date the foundation repair was complete until I received the documents mentioned above. This is after requesting them 3 times through PM alone.

This is generally why people avoid conflict with you, because you're insane. Not borderline, not a little crazy, but section 8 unfit for service crazy, like fuck with a man because a pinstripe wasn't perfect, or trespass for pics in the rain, kinda crazy.

What does anything posted have anything to do with citizenship? I haven't talked that much to Matt - but his shit is hilarious, the information that floats around involving you carries a certain continuity. Your version of that story is different than reality. When we talked, you told me that you wanted help with the business and administrative side, which worked, since I generally don't do sales. Upon my arrival, we drove around for a for days and you told me to get a ladder and start selling, to use my "board cred" because people liked me more and that I needed to earn my keep. I hung out for a few days, kept trying to inquire about the business side and was constantly steered to sales, at 40%. I wasn't interested, it wasn't the offer and wasn't what I was interested in.

Want the money for the cards? Don't want that harming our friendship.

And like I said, I still used your for quoting other jobs, I mastered a trait you haven't, letting shit go.

I also think a lot of the issues with you are your apparent lack of character. You've told others and me about your arrest and conviction as a felon, your DUI and the jealous cop that was out of his mind for pulling your over, your constant bragging about infidelity (which seems to have got you single), and just the drama that has followed you for large portions of your life. I'm still in shock that you were able to get a CHL, all things considered.
