Still sounds well worth it to me. That's like diesel miles.

You can have fast, reliable and cheap just not all at the same time.
I always thought Subaru were very reliable vehicles?

They are. There are cases of the head gasket leaking due to the boxer design, but for the most part, they are good cars. Clutches are expensive as hell though.

I like the new BRZ but they are blowing up engines and having all sorts of issues. I am glad I did a lot of research before buying one. If they get it worked out I might buy one.

This. Assuming he doesn't work any extra days, that's 50,000 miles a year. He better hope he gets mileage reimbursement!

                          Fixed.

Truth is, those 3 foresters will be running long after the Infinity runs up a mechanic bill that exceeds the value of the car. While the interiors of the Subaru sucks, their non-turbo cars run for fucking ever and a day.

But they will need head gaskets every 100k miles or so, which isn't really a huge ordeal. I don't get the love everyone has for Nissan/Infiniti either. Way too many timing chain problems with the VQ35 engines. Not to mention oil consumption issues.

Subaru cars are fairly reliable, especially the non turbos. They do have the head gasket issue though that all Boxer style engines will have at some point. You need to adjust the valves sometimes and I doubt you'll ever see one with 300k miles on it. Compared to cars built 15-20 years ago they'd be considered extremely reliable and durable, compared to modern cars though they don't hold up.

When I say modern cars I mean like a new Impala or Taurus. Just your basic model without the SS or SHO package. With regular maintenance and normal driving they should pretty easily go 300k miles without any drivetrain problems at all. Whereas a 1999 version of the Impala would need intake gaskets 3-4 times and probably would have worn out the rod bearings in half the time, plus at least two transmissions. The Taurus would have needed head gaskets and at least one transmission, plus ball joints, a steering rack, etc...
