  • Anyone dealt with a total loss and insurance?

The other party involved is at fault. They've accepted liability and I have sent them the title so they can issue the payment. I've waited for a week with no payment. I called the adjuster and he said they wont issue the check until the vehicle is at their lot.

Does this sound right? I dont feel comfortable handing over the vehicle until I get a check.

When my 87 Hatch was totaled it sat at Clark Bros for some time, and I got payment immediately after we agreed on price. I don't see what where the car is has to do with them settling up.

Assuming its one of the bigger companies personally I wouldn't worry about it if you are prepared to accept whatever they offer just give them the car.

You could probably raise hell and get your way eventually but you will just delay the process.

They have been nothing but a PITA since the get go and it is not a big company.

Tell them you've reconsidered and want $1000 more..

I'd tell them that you will ride with the tow truck driver they send to get it and they'd better bet at the destination with the check plus cab fare wherever you have to get back to.

Get your agent involved, that's what you pay them for. And if you feel the amount they offer is low, get several estimates on a replacement vehicle and use that as leverage.

This is the at fault insurance company I'm dealing with. My insurance has not and will not be involved in this.

I just leave the vehicle at the shop that quoted the estimate. Usually the adjuster just has you meet them at their office and cut you a check when you give them the title.

IDK.. Generally speaking, I'm not going to fork over the cash for a vehicle until it is in my possession. I don't see it as unreasonable if you have already agreed on a price.

Tell them to send a tow truck and to send the guy with the check so that when he picks it up, he can pay you too

Agree. It's called subrogation. Read up on it if you're not familiar.

why wouldn't you want your insurance involved? its not going to cost you any more money nor go against your driving record...
