I can't imagine his disappointment after being told that by his son.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery" ... Winston Churchill

            Fuckin A!

My first vehicle was an 81 Toyota 4x4. It didn't run, tranny was trashed, and had been a mud toy in NC. I saved money to buy it and was so proud I couldn't stand it. My dad gave me the cash for repairs on the promise that I would eithe work.

Dad and I spent 3 months getting that fucking pile of shit running, we bled, we fought and we bonded. I gained huge respect for a man that I fought with as an asshole teenager because of his knowledge, patience and guidance. No matter what has transpired to this point or what will happen in this life, I got to build my first vehicle with my dad, and no one can take that from me.

That's the only way a male child should get a car. I hauled my first heap home on a trailer. It was a '70 Mustang Grande 351 Cleveland. For $1800 it was a bad bitch...then I found out I could make a little money off of buying/selling on CL. It's all been fun, hell, and busted knuckles since then.

CRASH hit the nail on the head. The kid gave away the real issue: step-daddy probably feels very threatened by the dad & mocked the shit out of the kid and, being an impressionable child, he's embarrassed and doesn't want mom mad. Shitty deal for the kid, dad needs to try his hand at beating the fuck out of step-notadaddy.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Man, no kidding. And I agree with Aaron. I would have done anything for that to be my first car at 16.
