Cdl medical card question

I don't drive for anyone, but I'd like to keep my CDL as a backup in case I ever need it, and at that point I'll go get a medical card. I hope to never need it, but I don't want to deal with getting a DOT physical every 2 years if I can help it.

I just went to the DPS. Texas is requiring CDL drivers to submit their medical cards. The DPS said there was not extensions and no exemptions.

I am off work due to an injury. I can't pass the physical. I filled out the CDL-7 and dropped to a Cat.2 and also filled out a CDL-10 stating I was only occasionally moving personal property and not for compensation.

I hope this allows me to get around the Jan. 30 deadline. I should be able to pass the physical in Feb.

So, instead of Jan 30th, I have until the end of the year to get a medical card? My CDL won't be downgraded until then? Just making sure I'm reading that correctly.

That's not the way I interpreted it. I read it as you still have to have it on you. The law is so you physically don't have to carry it in your person.
