MCKINNEY — Police said a 33-year-old man shot and killed his estranged wife while her children were inside a parked vehicle with her early Thursday night at a McKinney day care center.
McKinney police said 36-year-old Melissa Williams had just picked up her children at the Discovery Learning Center, located in the 1800 block of W. White Ave., when witnesses heard her arguing with a man. Police later identified the man as her husband, Cedric McFail.
At about 5:44 p.m., 16 minutes before the day care was to close, McFail fired several shots into the car, fatally wounding Williams, police said.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the mother dead inside the vehicle. Her two children were not harmed.
A short time later, McFail walked into a home in the 2700 block of Frontier Ln. and had a short conversation with someone before he shot himself, a witness told police.
McFail was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A team of chaplains were called to the day care to help with distraught employees and children.
The children were taken into the care of Child Protective Services.
