Seen too much, without the "constant connections" available today, to even comprehend a suicide now - especially at 12 yr/age!! I don't care WHAT the parent's excuse was, at that dev state, they should have been more privy to that boy's life. No excuses. Poor child and poor family - who now "has to" come to grips with the signs that they surely missed.
I no longer shift gears - I switch beers. Cheers!

I have a 22 rifle that one of my parent's friend's kid tried to off himself with. It didn't kill him though, just left him mostly a vegetable.

Sucks that the kid felt that was the only way to handle his problems. I can't think of any reason for suicide to even be a remotely feasible solution to anything.

Being eaten alive by wild animals with no chance for survival? I think I might off myself with my last bullet when I see them ripping my guts out.

Aw man. RIP to the kiddo.

I'm not going to rag the parents, because WHO could think their 12 yr old son could even have those kind of thoughts?

Hopefully this terrible situation makes someone aware that even young children need to be monitored for mental health issues. In fact, the sooner you step in and help them work through their problems, the better.

I'm just glad I grew up during the time period I did.

Not that I think there is any punishment that could be worse than losing one of our kids, but I wonder what type of trouble the parents are going to be in for leaving a weapon accessible to a minor?

I know my first child didn't know the combo to the safe at age 12...my other two kids probably won't either. The dad should've locked them up and not provide access.

Remember when your grandparents and parents would leave the rifles and shotguns propped up in a corner, hung up on a rack or in that nice glass display cabinet and kids would leave them alone. Ya...good times...

It's ironic how we all talk about the damage of social media....and yet the judgment already taking place on the family in this very thread. Classy.

I had a conversation with my girls today regarding this. I'm very grateful that I have open lines of communication with my kids.

Suicide is a more divisive subject than abortion. Kind of sad, really. Really feel bad for that family.
