I'm scratching my head over this one too. Furthermore, it is pennies for the dealer to fix it and likely retain a customer the next time he looks to buy a vehicle.

I think it was 20% or maybe 25% before so now you have to have LESS tint. AND State and Local laws almost always differ on what is accepted.

I skipped over most of the thread, my bad. Some people just think it's easier to correct the issue themselves. If I like the tint I'd just go to a no pass no pay inspection place, windows down.

Opposite thing happened when Katrina bought her new Escape. The dealer added on the $300 or so charge for tint but according to the sales guy, since "they just got the car off the truck", they didn't have time to put the tint on yet. She never did go back to have it added, I'm kinda surprised actually lol

Grapevine Ford didn’t care that they sold me a battery that had a separate warranty from the car and then would not honor that warranty when it was brought in for replacement.

I was told multiple things: "oh, that is an aftermarket battery", "I have never seen that before" (when showing them the warranty label that was ON THE FUCKING BATTERY), "Oh, we cannot replace it because it was sold with the car and therefore falls under the cars warranty" all of which I heard within 5 minutes of explaining that I felt it should be covered based off the Motorcraft warranty.

Either way, Misleading is the term I find most appropriate...and as stated before, you have no business without customers so what does a little $160 battery cost a dealer? No more than window tint and yet that is too much as well.

Break your windows out and file on insurance for new windows and tint.

I'm confused? They sold you a battery separate from the car but then it was sold with the car? Either way, the warranty should be from the time the battery was installed new. If you bought it from them (with or without the car), they should warranty it.

If the car wasn't legal, then they should have stripped the tint and either sold it without tint or sold it with corrected tint. By not doing that, they misrepresented the product and sold the car as being legal with tint. They should deliver what they represented. My analogy isn't flawed - you're comprehension of delivering what you advertised is what's flawed.
LOL! We can agree to disagree. Does a legally and current inspection on a vehicle get re-done when its owned for a short time by a dealer? if so, i didn't realize it.

however, comparing 'illegal' tint to a fake watch is about the worst analogy possible. he didn't buy a 2010 Mustang GT and get a 2010 Fakestang GT.. it's the car and everything else he purchased. I doubt the tint is even mentioned anywhere on the sales invoice.

I've got a better story from Plano Lincoln Mercury, I bought my 2008 MKZ there brand new. Two years later the Motorcraft battery has corrosion all over the - terminal and it won't hold a charge. I call roadside they take it in. PLM calls me the next day tells me the battery is not from Ford/Lincoln and that it will cost me $260.00 for a new battery, - cable and labor.
I tell that dumbass that I bought the car new from there and all the service (oil changes, tire rotates) have been done by them. Of course I also tell him that all Fusions and MKZ's are built in Mexico at the Hermisillo plant and that maybe they use a different type of Motorcraft battery, but in any case, I'm not paying for something that is under warranty, so call me whens its ready or I'm talking to the GM who lives a couple of houses down from me.

Tint laws have changed recently and not to mention how many times have we all seen one inspection shop pass something that another wouldn't? I recently had to pull the tint off the front windows of my suburban that have been on there for years due to failed inspection. Same shop I have always taken it to also. Not that big of a deal imo.

I would save the frustration and pay to get a new quality tint job with a warranty.

just got a call from the used car sales manager, said he was checking in with me to let me know he's about to go to the GM and figure out how he wants to resolve the problem. Might be pleasantly surprised here.... maybe..
said they will have it resolved today.

Here's hoping it's in your favor. I'm usually of the mindset that if I'm in charge of something and I can do what amounts to a token gesture to keep someone happy and keep making money, it's not even a second thought. How much better would you view them if when you brought it in they said "Oh yes sir. We'll have that fixed immediately and are sorry about that. Can we get you a Coke while you wait?"
