When I worked at a local Ford house, a local wealthy man custom ordered an expedition 4x4. When it showed up the make ready kid took it for a test drive to make sure all was well. By is account, “He took a turn at the posted speed limit of 30mph when it suddenly lost control and rolled five times.” He was fired, and the customer was contacted.
His response was frustration at first, but when he calmed down he decided it was better off. He had been thinking he’d rather have a truck anyway. So, he custom ordered a 5speed F-150. When this one showed up from Ford the salesman insisted that no one drive the truck but him. The truck was made ready and needed to be washed before delivery, the salesman walked through the wash bay got in the truck; started it up, put it in gear, and then his soapy shoe slipped off the clutch and the truck lurched into a concrete pole!
The customer now drives a chevy!

It was a service writer, secretary and a PAINTER! All of the painters guns and tools were sitting outside of the gate when he got to work the next morning. Service writer was charged, he was driving.

His demand for a new car is reasonable IMO. He bought the car new. He knew the condition/history of the car. He put the miles on it. They destroy it and then offer a used, wrecked, multi-owner car as compensation? Give the guy an equally optioned new car and be done with it.

He absolutely deserves a brand new one, and they still should kiss his ass throughout the whole process.

didn't something like this happen at a BMW dealership in Ft worth that involved a M5, the dealership said it wasn't their fault and the guy wound up in like a 2 year court battle with them

I actually bought a car from a customer once to make them happy. I needed a new car, they wanted a new car and they sold it to me 8k under NADA. Win win in my opinion, at the end of the day its your job to make the customer happy.

A new car would be nice, but it's not fair or does any good for the dealership. The damage has already been done from the negative PR. How about a new ZL1 and he pay the difference between cost and black book?

Just plugged in a heavy estimate in Pathways and it was 15 k, I even put extra crap on it. It must have major damage on the Rt side.

I used to be a service manager at a dealership, if the car was this new and an employee wrecked it we would have replaced it with a new one. May have lost money in the deal but it would stay out of the news and keep the lawyers out of it. Once lawyers get involved no one wins.

It wasn't a new car though.
