            On the serious side, after y'all get married, get that thing professional appraised. Then go to your insurance agent and add the ring as a supplemental coverage on your renter's or homeowner's insurance. It'll cover the ring for if stones fall out or if you just plain lose it.

              I'd do it now. No need to wait until marriage to insure it.

              Also, some homeowners policies will not cover accidental loss. I found this out after the maid lost one of my wife's diamond earrings (most likely knocked off the dresser and vacuumed up).
