I was in a bad relationship with a hot assed ex gymnast, but she was dumb as a box of shit and half crazy. She told me one night that it was time to get married and have kids or break up. I don't know about "the one" notion, lightning striking or whatever. Sure, love is feelings and emotions. Passion. Etc. But love is also a choice. You can choose to fall in love or out of love at will. All I know is that two people have strong feelings for each other and decide to make a lifelong commitment out of it. As long as you DECIDE it's a lifelong commitment, and commit to it as lifelong, then you can make it last. To go into a marriage with the "eh, if it doesn't work, we can divorce" attitude, your marriage won't last at the smallest bump.
Dated for 4 years, been married for 15 years. We've had some major fights/arguments. Had our share of bumps. But divorce is never an option for us and we work it out (some take longer than others). She's changed. I've changed. We don't do some things we used to do and do other things we didn't use to.
I know a couple that dated for 4 months and got married. I also know a couple that was more or less an arranged marriage, met, got to know each other for a month or so, then got married. Both couples been married for nearly 10 years now.
