Rat Terriers, FTW. There are multiple accounts of them killing 1500+ rats in one outing, and in a big infestation where they can wade in and have basically unlimited targets, they can kill rats as fast as one every three seconds. They are crazy rat death machines.

I think most/all terriers have a good ratting instinct. My schnauzer/jack Russell mix has caught and eaten rats/mice in my backyard. Haven't seen any in years though. He must be doing a good job. He stalks things in the backyard like a cat then pounces
